Indonesian Science Communication Lab (IDSCL)

The Indonesian Science Communication Lab (IDSCL) was established in 2023 with the initiative built on the awareness that a collaborative networking platform was needed for researchers, science communicators, journalists, and the science-interested community.
IDSCL is a non-profit initiative established to develop research-based science communication strategies and practices to enhance public discourse and participation in science through a dialogic, deliberative approach within the scope of public engagement of science.
Our Goals
Encouraging Collaboration: IDSCL aims to be a collaborative reference in multi/interdisciplinary science communication research and development. We encourage individuals and knowledge from various backgrounds, as well as strive for reflection on practices in Indonesia and follow developments in international networks. We act as a catalyst for conversation between science communication experts, stakeholders, and science communication practitioners.
Science Communication Research: We conduct research on science communication and the general public to address fundamental questions and issues in science communication related to critical issues in science communication and scientific information practices, the communication of pressing scientific issues, and the development of mutually beneficial science communication models. We integrate knowledge from various disciplines, such as science, environment, health, and socio-politics, through digital media, and promote interdisciplinary exchange of experiences.
Offering Science Communication Guidance/Evaluation: IDSCL strives to provide easy-to-implement science communication evaluation guidance and set standards for good evaluation practices. We develop an evaluation framework for experiments in science communication that can be used by other organizations in the field. We also formulate tested and measurable formats for activities in science communication and critical science issues such as disinformation and misinformation. In addition, we create formats to improve science communication competencies in Indonesian society, including science journalists, researchers, science communicators, research institutions, and universities.
